In this episode of SCI TV, we explore conflict management in the sport of roller derby with SCI’s Annie Kilburg along with the Rose City Rollers’ Heather “Hell Vetica” Wilkinson and Raven “Mad” Mahoney. They discuss the types of issues that are both unique to their sport’s culture as well as common problems that many athletes contend with. Annie has developed a cutting-edge program for better managing conflict faced by the RCR’ers and shares this experience, as well. She has been the proud Volunteer Manager for the Rose City Rollers since 2009 and looks forward to continuing with the league for many more years. When not with RCR, she also works at the Hoyt Arboretum and manages a senior nutrition program in Portland, OR. Raven “Mad” Mahony is a high school math teacher. Raven has been skating for about a year and a half, the last 7 months on Rose City Rollers (RCR) Fresh Meat Program. Raven got involved with the conflict management commitee to learn more about conflict and mediation and to provide this kind of training to others within RCR as well as offer support to members of RCR in conflict.
