David McKay comes to SCI with a background in social science research and as a former NCAA student-athlete in cross country and track. David brings expertise in qualitative research, facilitation, and assessment. He has a unique ability to quickly foster an environment of trust that supports effective communication, interviewing and data collection. He specializes in team assessment and dynamics, and brings a calm, thoughtful approach to all of his engagements.
David earned a BA in Political Science from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Oregon. While at Oregon, David focused on environmental policy analysis and served as a Graduate Teaching Fellow in the Department of Planning, Public Policy and Management. He has interned in the Oregon Governor’s Office as a policy researcher and technical writer for the state’s Ten Year Energy Action Plan, and worked with the Oregon Department of Justice to research the cost of victim assistance programs in Oregon counties.
As a competitive runner, David enjoys every avenue of the sport but especially the trail and mountain scene, the hillier the better. He has competed for the University of Oregon Running Club and was twice an All-American in cross country at Luther College where he received an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. In his spare time David enjoys pouring over maps, planning his next mountain adventure.
