Norman Wain brings a wealth of business and legal affairs experience within the sports industry. Previously, he served as the Chief of Business & Legal Affairs, General Counsel for USA Track & Field, the national governing body for track & field, long-distance running, and race-walking in the United States. In this role, Mr. Wain managed all business and legal aspects of the organization, including business oversight, contract negotiation, corporate governance, intellectual property, litigation, insurance and risk management.
Before his tenure at USA Track & Field, Mr. Wain was the Vice President of Corporate Legal Affairs at The Finish Line, Inc., a billion-dollar, publicly traded athletic specialty retailer in the United States, which was later acquired by JD Sports. He was responsible for the management and administration of the legal department, and its integration within the various business verticals and affiliated entities. His previous roles include working in Business & Legal Affairs at Writers & Artists Agency, Inc., a prestigious Beverly Hills talent agency (later acquired by Paradigm), and positions at Fox Sports and in private legal practice specializing in litigation.
In addition to his professional roles, Mr. Wain is an adjunct professor and sits on the board of directors for the Sports Lawyers Association (SLA) and the governance commission for World Athletics. He also serves as the chair of the Advisory Board for Law In Sport, the largest international sports law publication and as a Trustee for Safe Sport International, a leading non-profit committed to ending all forms of interpersonal violence, abuse and harassment in sports environments globally. Mr. Wain was the founding chair for the sports & entertainment committee for the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC), where he also served on their national board of directors. He has spoken at numerous domestic and international conferences and seminars on a variety of business and legal topics.
Mr. Wain received his B.A. Degree with Phi Beta Kappa Honors from the University of California at Berkeley and his J.D. Degree from the Pepperdine University School of Law. Mr. Wain is also a mediator, who specializes in complex disputes. His areas of expertise include business management, sports and entertainment, contract law, governance, intellectual property, labor & employment, partnerships and business combinations, personal injury, real estate, and sexual discrimination and abuse.
